At Least 13 Dead, 28 Injured After Bus of Tourists Plunges Down 160-Foot Gorge

 


At least 13 people died and 28 were injured after a bus plunged 160 feet into a gorge in Tangua, Colombia, on January 3. The bus, carrying 42 passengers, was traveling on the Pasto-Ipiales highway toward the Santuario de las Lajas near the Ecuadorian border when it crashed on ,

a road with sharp curves.Authorities suspect mechanical failure, speeding, and the driver’s choice of an alternative toll-free route as possible causes. The injured were taken to hospitals in Tangua, Ipiales, and Pasto. Colombian officials, including President Gustavo Petro, expressed condolences.This tragedy follows another fatal bus crash weeks earlier in France, where two Colombians died, and dozens were injured
