My Wife’s Male Friend Comes over a Lot to Work with Her from Home, So I Installed Hidden Cameras in Our House

My wife works from home, and recently, she started having her high school ex over a lot. They both work in a similar field and claimed they were collaborating on some projects. I didn’t mind at first—after all, I trusted her, and it made sense for them to work together. But then one day, I came home early and saw them watching TV together. Her head was resting on his lap. That image stayed with me, gnawing at my mind.

My gut told me something wasn’t right, but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions without proof. So, I ended up buying two cameras and secretly installing them in our house: one in the living room and one in the home office where they usually worked. I hated resorting to this, but I needed to know the truth.

The first day they were set up, I saw nothing unusual. They worked on their laptops, talked about work, and didn’t do anything that seemed inappropriate. I almost felt guilty for doubting her and considering taking the cameras down.

But then came the second day.
I watched the footage late at night after my wife had gone to bed. They started off working as usual, sitting across the table from each other, discussing their project. After a while, they moved to the living room. They were sitting close, maybe a little too close. Then, the unthinkable happened.

Her ex leaned in and whispered something in her ear. She giggled and playfully pushed him away. Then, she looked around nervously, almost as if she suspected someone might be watching. My heart raced as I watched them. She didn’t resist as he put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer. My wife leaned her head on his shoulder, and they sat like that for a while, watching TV. Then, it escalated. He tilted her chin up and kissed her. She kissed him back.I felt my world shatter into a million pieces. My stomach churned, and my hands shook. I couldn’t watch any further. I turned off the computer and sat in silence, trying to process what I had just seen. I felt betrayed, angry, and utterly heartbroken.

The next morning, I confronted her.
I didn’t mention the cameras; I just asked her outright if something was going on between her and her ex. She denied it, of course. She acted offended that I would even suggest such a thing. Her denial only fueled my anger. Finally, I told her about the cameras and what I had seen. She froze, her face going pale. She stammered, trying to explain, but her excuses fell flat. There was nothing she could say to undo the damage.

I couldn’t stay in the house any longer. I packed a bag and left, needing time to think and figure out what to do next. I stayed with a friend for a few days, trying to make sense of everything.

During that time, my wife bombarded me with messages and calls, begging me to come home and talk. She apologized repeatedly, claiming it was a mistake and that she still loved me. She said she was willing to do anything to fix our marriage.

I was torn. I loved her, but the betrayal was too much to bear. Trust, once broken, is incredibly hard to rebuild. I didn’t know if I could ever look at her the same way again.

In the end, I decided we needed some space. I told her we would separate for a while and see if we could work through this with counseling. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I knew I couldn’t just pretend nothing had happened.

We’re still in the process of figuring things out. Trust is a fragile thing, and it will take a long time to heal the wounds caused by her betrayal. Whether we’ll be able to rebuild our relationship or not remains to be seen. But for now, all I can do is take it one day at a time and hope that, somehow, we can find a way forward.
